Dr Lau has had extensive medical experience in both governmental and private medical practice, and in the Singapore Armed Forces (he holds the rank of Captain (Reservist). He also worked in the United Kingdom, for some of the best ENT departments and hospitals such as:

Dr Lau has been a consultant ENT Specialist in private practice for 18 years. He previously worked at Singapore General Hospital. He has surgical and visiting rights to all the private hospitals in Singapore.

In addition to being a medical expert and ENT specialist appointed to the Subordinate Courts' Medical Expert Panel. Dr Lau has served on many boards and panels of various embassies, legal bodies, associations and societies.

Dr Lau is also a seasoned speaker on ENT topics, having given lectures in Singapore, Australia, India and Malaysia. In 2002, he was the Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker at the conference of the Society of Otorhinolaryngologists of Southern India (attended by over 400 ENT surgeons). Dr Lau lectured on the management of paediatric snoring and sleep disorders and endoscopic management of severe epistaxis. Dr Lau also demonstrated surgical technique for temporal bone surgery.

Dr Lau's practice covers all areas – diagnostic, surgical and medical – of ENT, head and neck practice. However, he has particularly strong interest and expertise in the areas of:
